Dusting off a Dream
Last week I decided to dust off an old dream.
I had first thought of it in 97 or 99. But I just let it sit there in my notebook and in the back of my head. I could say it was because it was ahead of it's time, but it is just as likely that I was "busy" and too intimidated to really pursue it.
Last week it came back. I came across a couple of manefestos by Tim Bednar, One on tagging changing your congregation and the the overall 20 tech trends .
Then God give's me a one-two punch with a quick update from Tim Bulkeley, who as been working on the Postmodern Bible Commentary and also played around with tagging on his BATSIS blog.
I was starting to see everything was in place. Back in the 90's, I wanted to have an online bible that would link to all types of content - reflections, devotions, commentaries, sermons, current events, poetry, art, etc. The problem was, the infrastructure really wasn't in place. But now it's '06 and we have blogs, and we have tagging. Why not roll a website together that used the bible along with del.icio.us tags to do an online blog bible - bibleicious!
Such as site would help us see biblical application and devotion in practive and even help teach us the art of identifying it as such and relating it to chapter and verse. This kind of Living Bible could be a doorway to powerfully communicating the power and relevancy of scriptures to the next generation.
So that's the basic idea. I've got a whole lot more that I'm going to say and do about this. The Why's and the How's

eBible I'm not sure what they are up to over there, but maybe they are building a web 2.0 app that allows users to tag verses. Not sure, but this is an idea whose time has come.
I'd love to see a proof of concept of like one gospel or maybe just the sermon on the mount or something.
Very, very cool.

Thanks for the link I'll check it out. I hope I'm not the only one who is actually trying to do this. I want lots of help and several copy cats as well.
I agree the proof of concept is a key so people can really get their hands on it and have the light go on. Once a basic page is in place we would need to pick a book, perhaps Mark the shortest Gospel or even one of Pauls meaty but short letters like Phillipians.
Then we have a push for people to focus on those verses to flesh it out.
This is a neat idea. They say great minds think alike... 43verses.com is my new app not unlike bibleicious, though the approach is somewhat different. Whereas you start with the whole bible text, 43V is more of a list of verses people want to remember.
Finding your blog and this app is pure inspiration - that other people are bringing the church into Web 2.0 is awesome. I pray God blesses your app and your growing community of taggers.
Good job on 43verses. And God bless your efforts there. I like the fact that it is immediately usable by the individual. Tulsa's not that far from Oklahoma. It's encouraging to see what others are doing to raise the water level of online Christian spirituality.
Love it.

Keep up the good work. I've actually been running a similar site (bibleshared.com) now for a little over a year. Found your site while looking for info on a bible web service I had heard about a while back.
It's good to see that not everyone is selling out and going crazy with ads.
